Herman Groenewald is an accomplished South African artist whose creative journey began more than 60 years ago with his first successful exhibition. He has continued to develop his distinctive body of work ever since, bringing energy, texture, colour, and feeling to each original painting.

Herman’s creativity extends beyond the canvas. He is also a master of bonsai, an art form that reflects his patience, close observation, and appreciation for balance and natural beauty. Alongside his work as a visual artist and bonsai master, he is a professional makeup artist, bringing a keen eye for detail, colour, form, and transformation to everything he does.

Now approaching his 80th birthday in October 2026, Herman is still going strong and continues to create with the same curiosity and commitment that have shaped his remarkable artistic life. To mark this special milestone, he plans to celebrate with a birthday party and exhibition, honouring eight decades of life and more than six decades devoted to art.
